Misinformation... Do the cops even know the law?!?

We aren't required to, but you would hope that by showing them the courtesy of informing them you are carrying that you can help make an already uncomfortable situation more comfortable for them. Ideally they would reciprocate that courtesy and appreciate your gesture. Obviously power corrupts lol.

I was talking with a friend of mine this past weekend, and he said that he's had a MHP trooper tell him that the firearms permit is not a "carry permit" ie that open carry isn't allowed. I forwarded on to him the law regarding open carry from opencarry.org with the commentary that not all LEOs know the law.
