Re: Jackson LEO killed
as i read it, the officer was chasing the suspect and they wound up in a creek, or drainage ditch, it was dark and as they tussled in 5 feet of water a shot rang and he was shot in the face with his own sidearm. dont know if they found his gun or not.
It all very sad for his family!

The escapee had fled the patrol car and was still hand cuffed...The LEO was shot in the struggle...I talked to several friends at Hinds Cty SO....unbelieveable....Officer had been on the job for 2 months
Unbelievable
I sure wish He'd just shot the escapee when He fled the car...
Prayers sent for the family

Re: Jackson LEO killed
Story said he asked the policeman to lower the car window so he could get more air and he (handcuffed) went out the open window while the car was stopped at a redlight.
Somebody explain to me how a LEO could let a handcuffed prisoner get out the car window.
Sorry but it just sounds incredible to me.

Something in the story isn't adding up. I can't think of why any LEO would lower a window enough to allow a person to get through it. Could be the perp kicked it out.
Regardless of what happened, a wife is now alone and kids don't have their daddy around anymore. Prayers.

Jackson police officer shot to death
The Associated Press
RAYMOND, Miss. -- A Jackson police officer on the force for only two months was shot to death while chasing an escaped prisoner, authorities said.
Glen Agee, 31, was fatally shot twice in the face, said Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart. Police said he was shot by the prisoner, who has not yet been charged in his death.
The prisoner was being taken to the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond on aggravated assault and domestic violence charges when he escaped from a squad car, police said. He ran into woods and Agee and another officer chased him, police said. The other officer wasn't injured.
The escaped prisoner was caught about 45 minutes later.
About 9:30 p.m. Friday, the patrol car stopped at a red light on Mississippi Highway 18 in Raymond, Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance said. The prisoner was able to get out of the car after one of the officers lowered his window to give him more air after he said he was having trouble breathing, Vance said.
Vance said that although the prisoner's hands were handcuffed behind him, he was able to pull his legs through his arms. When found, the man was handcuffed in front, Vance said.
Investigators believe Agee was shot with his own weapon during a struggle with the prisoner before he fled into the woods, Vance said. The man's own gun had been removed by the officers prior to his initial arrest and was found in the patrol car, Vance said.
Before coming to the Jackson Police Department, Agee had been an officer at Jackson State University.

Thanks for the story Cap. Still crazy series of events. Got any history/background on the prisioner? Seems like extreme behavior for aggrivated assault and domestic charges. Now facing Capital Murder.

On the radio this morning they said the man reached out of the window and opened the door from the outside. It said "one of the officers" where was the other officer while this one was struggling with the man? This is terrible. I feel for the family and friends of this officer.

'neck, You can't shoot fleeing felons anymore. Law changed to the worse IMO back in '70s or early '80s if I remember.

The ironic thing is....if being transported by MDOC, the policy is "shoot to stop".

Re: Jackson LEO killed
There was another patrol car following them so the whole thing is odd. After the Karen Irby trial I see why he pleaded innocent. You can't appeal a trial if you plead guilty.
