Mexico issueing ID's here?

My question is, if someone is here legally can't they get a state ID? Answer--- YES. So who needs these ID cards?

Can't figure how this can be legal. If the id's are not issued by the US or a state of the US then how are they any good to anyone for identification? ...and why would an illegal need id or want it, especially if it is invalid for use. ...and if there is no initial id to validate, then how can anyone make an official id for them?

From reading the article they are issuing Consular ID’s that are in English and Spanish for the Mexican Nationals that are here legally to replace their id's that are just in Spanish to make it easier for U.S. officals to verifiy their id's when they apply for visa,green card etc, they not issuing id's to illegal aliens.

Why wouldn't a Consular ID be vaild for a Mexican citizen in the U.S, our passports are legal id's in other countries?

The problem comes in the fact that if they dont have a Mexican ID all they have ti do is fill out an application and they get the ID on the spot. This has been done in other places and LEO's report that the issued ID's don't match the real ID's found on them. My brother in law is from Mexico and he even says they use this to get fake ID's to use to open bank accounts, rent things such as furniture, ext, ect..... it took him two years to get his permanent residence but he did it the right way.
