The days for builds to save $$s seem to be about passed ... by the time you purchase all the pieces, you can buy one already assemblied ... as for the AKs, kits no longer come with barrels. Unless you can find an old kit w/barrel, just not worth the trouble ,,,

Del-ton has the AR kits less stripped recievers for $465.00 + 30 shipping. You can get a lower about $80, so you got $575 in a rifle. The cheapest assemblied rifle I have seen is the S&W from CDNN that are $699 (they are out of the $599 ones.) I have not seen any new ARs for less than $600.

jtsales,Model 1 sales and Del-ton all start around $465-500 for the kits less recievers. I have been researching this alot this week because I am probably going to order a kit next week.

Yep when AK's were $900 kits made sense...but now you can get complete rifles all day long for $400 and AR's can be had for $700...so why bother

You can save money if you are going to use higher quality parts to put together a better AR. But, to go as cheap as possible, you won't save much.

Loving the classicarms website. Excellent prices compared to what I've been seeing.

classicarms are good folks...I've bought several rifles from them...they ship straight to FFL of your choice after they get FFL's #

Punch the ole Mastercard and get R Done...Good luck whichever way you go...

The only way I'd consider a kit now is if I wanted to do an ultra high end AR...neither AR's or AK's turn me on enough to do it...

Does anyone have experience with the AR-15 parts kits on akpartskit.com? The have complete kits starting at $409.00. Their uppers are built and headspaced.

I have bought 3 AR kits from akpartskits (aka Blackthorne) and am pleased with them. My current A2-20" and A3-16" are Blackthorne kits. The other A3-16" kit was bought & built and sold to someone.

How long has it been since you bought the last one? I've seen some bad reviews on their kits in the past but it seems that they have been getting good reviews lately. I've got and extra lower laying around and I'm considering their 8.5" pistol kit.

I would say less than 18 months ago. I also admit they are not the best kits on the market, just one of the cheapest ($$$).

I have at least 4 stripped lowers laying around and am thinking of ordering another kit from Blackthorne. Thinking about the Dissipater (A2 handguard with 16" heavy barrel) style........

If Sub doesn't want to get rid of one of his lowers surplusammo.com has Aero Precision stripped lowers for $79.99 each, 2 or 3 for $74.99 each, or 10 for 69.99 each.

Please let us know how the Blackthorne kit turns out. With the upper and bolt already built it shouldn't take but a couple of hours to complete it.

Links are here http://www.msgunowners.com/ar-s-ak-s-silencers-class-iii-f17/57-build-t7975.htm to an inexpensive build. Less than $500 for a shooter AR. Unless anyone wants to share how do do one for less....
