Picked up that 10/22 today.

Purchased that Ruger 10/22 today. My first 22 in almost 35 years. Still waiting on the AK-47 in 22LR to be delivered. Cant wait to shoot the Ruger.

Scratching an itch. Yea, I bought it at Wal-Mart and looked at their other two 22's, both Marlins, but neither was as nice as the Ruger plus I dont think there are as many accesory options as there is for the Ruger. Im going to leave it stock for a while but Cabelas has AR-15 kits for the Ruger for 90 bucks and Im thinking of getting one.

I assume it has the new improved plastic receiver?

A good cheap scope for it is the Mueller APV.

And I like Burris Signature Zee rings. They don't mess up the scope.

Oh and it is the plastic receiver.

I'm pretty sure that the receiver is still milled aluminum...its the trigger housing that's Polymer....

Not sure, looks like metal but has a plastic feel to it.

On the receiver itself all they did was go from annodizing the receiver to a powder coat...basically changing the finish...I liked the annodized finish on the receiver better...The trigger group, however, went from Aluminum to Polymer....there's much debate on this subject...it is probably more durable...it may even result in a slightly better factory trigger pull...but it is at the end of the day polymer and I like aluminum...so I swapped mine out...

So captain invited me to the range in Byram today (Thanks for that). Got there, took the 10/22 and a few handguns but really just wanted to see what the Ruger would do. At first I had a little problem with zeroing. Havent had anything with a scope since I was a kid. Captain gave me a quick lesson and I started the zero. It took me 75 rounds, 5 rounds at a time but I finally got it to hit dead on where I was aiming. Next loaded the magazine with 25 rounds. Attempted to chamber the first round and it came out of the mag at an angle that wouldnt allow me to eject it and had the magazine stuck. Had to take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it out. Removed the magazine and took out four rounds and it did it again. The magazine is a Butler Creek plastic mag 25 rd. but will only function properly with 15 rounds. I was shooting at 50 meters. On a circular target I was able to put 12 of 15 rounds in the center. Fired three more mags of 15 rds. with pretty much the same result. Changed targets to a square target with a 4 inch diamond in the middle and a 2 inch circle in each corner. Fired about 100 rounds, was able to take out the diamond and put plenty of rounds in the 2 inch circles. Total I fired 300 rounds out of it today. Was pretty happy with the way it shot. It definetly lives up to the hype on here and other rimfire forums. I did have several fail to ejects today. Probably 5 out of almost 300. I know shooting at 50 meters isnt much of a test of skill and the weapon but I was pretty much just testing it out today. Next time I plan on shooting 100 meters.

Seems like all of my new extended mags want to FTE or FTF until they are broken in.....at least loaded and shot several times.... I use the Butler Creek too, but with the steel lips, after hearing about wear issues with the plastic lips .... my 10-22 also has the polymer trigger group, but has worked great for about 3000 rounds now....still very crisp, clean, accurate trigger....
