Post by nbuchanan2 on Mon Aug 16, 2010 11:25 pm

I was going to buy 3 or 4 and was wondering what you guys trust? Mnf Ruger mags or do you go with an offbrand. Either way, where do you buy your mags from, particular website? Thanks.

Buy Ruger mags. They are as cheap as any 3rd party stuff.

Used to be you could order parts and assemble Ruger Mark II mags from the factory cheaper than you could buy them assembled, but the factory went up on the price of parts so it's no longer cheaper.

You might poke around on RimFireCentral.com.

Go with Ruger. But I will tell you this. Years ago Ram-line (not sure if they still make MkII mags) had some problems but I have a SS 12-rounder that is flawless. My dad left a plastic one in box with the gun I have now that looked trashed at the top and was just used for storing extra ammo. I took it to range 3 months ago and it actually worked 100% although the top of mag looks worn. It could be that a Ruger MkII will feed off anything...

For the little you'd save, I'd go with ruger factory. Can't imagine anyone selling some for much less than 17-18 bucks.

As I suggested by number of mags- I'd replace with Ruger today if needed. In fact I think it's about time I got 2 more for collection. I just finished cleaning all guns (including the MkII) used yesterday including basic cleaning of magazines. By appearance and spring strength they still look unused...

I ended up buying a few Ruger MKII mags from impactguns.com. I think it was $17/per. Well, then I got some other mags and other odds and ends. All the mags I ordered functioned with no problems. I had never ordered from that website but they have a good selection and treated me right thumbs up

I have never had a problem with factory Ruger mags. I have an original mark 2 mag looks like left in bottom of tackle box but still performs flawlessly.

nbuchanan2..."you're welcome". You'll find there are many knowledgable, experienced folks on this good forum and if you're at Magnolia R&P club in Byram you'll run into'em there also.

Midsouthshooterssupply has Mec-Gar(a primary factory mag manufacturer) MkII mags for $15.51. Good company (written about earlier this year in American Rifleman per Sheriff Jim Wilson)-good service and customer relations IMHO. Not singling out because I use many others...and still shop locally because we should...
