First Steel match and preparation
I'm really eager to start shooting some events, and ran across the steel events while lurking around here. I know the next match is in September. My question is this though. How do you go about preparing for a match? Are there any drills people run to help prep for some of the events, or specific dry fire practice or what? What can I expect? Thanks in advance.

Set paper plates up , they are similar in size to alot of the steel we will be shooting. If shooting centerfire ,ractice drawing and shooting a paper plate . If rimfire practice holding the gun at a 45 degree angle and then snapping it up and firing . Good luck .

First thing is get use to your weapon..
Pratice taking very slow and well placed shots. Once you are comfortable with that then pratice moving from target to target..
Just remember Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast..
Where you from?

I'm in Pearl. The Paper plate idea sounds pretty good. I'm just going to keep practicing my fundamentals, and progressively speed it up.

I think everybody has pretty much got it covered.
I'll just tell you my dry fire drill.
I've got 5 electric outlet in a line in my room. I stand 15 ft away and engage them in various orders. Don't squeeze the trigger till your sure of your sight alignment. Find your natural point is aim by closing your eyes and with your hands together bring your hands to the main target (usually the center) If you are not on the target when you open your eyes adjust your feet (left foot back will bring your POA left and vice versa.
Oh yeah... ALWAYS MAKE POSITIVE THE GUN IS UNLOADED DURING DRY FIRE PRACTICE!
If you want I've got a GLOCK 17, 3 mags and a holster you can borrow during the match to get you started. If rimfire is more your thing we can share my red dot sighted Buckmark. Let me know.

I'm going to be rolling with my Sig 226. I appreciate the offer on the borrowed gun Leland, but I have a hunch your holster won't work, i'm a southpaw lol

I'm not a member at magnolia. Do they let people on as "guests" with other shooters?
