Gewehr 98

Post by HoferUtzer on Wed Aug 18, 2010 5:00 am

Hello!

Here is my rifle for the german match "Ordonanzgewehr" which means military bolt action rifle. It`s a german Gewehr 98, build by the Danzig Arsenal in 1915, after some inspection in good condition. This type of rifle was used by the German Army in World War I.

Greetings
Uwe

Nice! What caliber is it?

What is a match like there in Germany?

PS: Have the former East Germans and West Germans fully integrated now?

Or, are there still differences between the two?

Caliber is 7,92 x 57 (often called 8x57). I don`t know what this match is in the USA, we shot 20 rounds at 100 metres, for fun we shot at 200 or 300 metres, too, this is the longest distance in our range here, it`s a former army range.

Between people there is today no difference, but you can see 20 years after the fall of the iron curtain still houses in the east who are more a ruin than a house. Some parts of ownership are not clear so nobody could do anything at the houses. But it will be better from year to year.

The Lange rear sight is a work of beauty. We shoot at either 100 yards or 200 yards, in the uSA, with military bolt rifles. Have a great time at the tournament.
