Polytech M14S 308??????

What can yall tell me about them? Good or bad? What would one be worth in about 90% condition? Are they accurate?

Is it accurate? Around how did he pay for it?

I've seen them on GB for around $900.00

I've never shot one, but hop over to m14tfl.com and you will read more than you ever need to know about them.

The price should be pretty good compared to other m14 makes. The recievers tend to be more in spec than Springfield m1a's, making mounting a scope some what more predictable and usgi parts should swap out fine with the OEM stuff. The bolts are supposedly soft and are often swapped out for USGI bolts, which i believe also calls for rebarrelling... Pretty much, they make a decent base for custom work if you want to have USGI barrel, bolt, oprod, etc installed on the Polytech reciever... So if you want to send it off to a smith to have it done up right, this is a good gun. If you want it to be a shooter as is, i'd probably pass. this is all just based on what i've read and you've probably seen these same things mentioned in your own research.

As far as accuracy goes, what kind of accuracy are you wanting? The m14/m1a is pretty much a 2 moa gun out of the box assuming the stock fits decent... and there are tons of things you can do to improve accuracy... bedding, custom stocks, several ebr chassis that are available, NM parts.. You can make them very accurate if you have the coin to drop on it, but it will never be as accurate as a tuned Remington 700.

another cautionary tale...

the M14 disease is a powerful sickness... once it has a hold of you, it will never let go. I already have it, if you do not want to catch it, your best course of action is to direct the seller of this piece in my direction...

I got a polytech m14 today. About to shoot it in the rain.

I have a Springfield M1A .308 and love to shoot it. Definitely my favorite rifle to shoot.

I had one for a long time and they are fabulous.The soft bolt stuff is bull,hardness checked my whole gun and it matched Milspec.Bone stock with Federal Gold Medal Match or good handloads they shoot 1-1.5 MOA as any other M14 type.I did all the National Match mods to mine,built a proper scope mount and put it in a USGI fiberglass stock.With my handloads it would put 5 rounds in less than an inch consistently.The biggest issue with standard M14 type rifles is the barrel is very light weight and heats quickly so you should let it cool often.The 900 is about right too.

most likely not. but open to see what you got. mine i bought NIB about two years ago, since then i have put 100-150 rounds through just for plinking. i have purchased and installed a scope base and a scope that comes with the camo thompson center ventures(3-9x40 camo). The stock is a brown/tan color synthetic.
i have 5 mags that will come with it. they are all 20 round mags, 4 metal and one plastic. it will shoot a 1-1.5" group consistentlywith lake city ammo. Price $1100
