Gauging interest in a Survival/Self-sufficiency type sub forum...

Post by 1985 4runner on Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:41 pm

Specific to our area, is there enough interest in a sub forum for Survival skills, Homesteading, sharing of knowledge etc?

Be it a Hurricane or other Natural Disaster, Flu Pandemic, Global Economic Collapse or Civil War II...

I think it's best to be prepared for that proverbial "rainy day". Water, Food, Shelter, Defense, Medicine, Fire, etc...

I'd love to have a sub forum dedicated to preparedness. Anyone else?

Pop 'em in the "General Off Topic" area for now and we will see where they go regarding interest ...

This was brought up a long time ago and there was little interest. That was 800 members ago. If there is enough interest I'll be happy to add a survival-preparedness section.

I'm for it. Ask people that had no power for 2 weeks to a month during Katrina how important being at least somewhat prepared is.

It important to be be prepared...

I like the idea of a separate section as long as the posts don't get too weird with the "black helicopter" they are coming to take me away stuff....

On some forums it really gets "out there" crazy

Yeah, let's do one...

...and keep it well moderated with the understanding (in the rules) that BEFORE we go into this thing if you get too 'out there' or 'too conspiratorial' your post and your thread might be edited...in other words there would be a 'disclaimer' of sorts that this section will be HEAVILY moderated...

Done properly, this would be very beneficial!

Well I'm for it & have some info to share as well and I can definitely learn some stuff.

I see it kinda like Grown up Boy Scouts- with guns.

Even my wife has gotten on board since Obama was elected & seen the need to have a supply of food on hand, diapers, etc...

She rarely complains when I get a new gun or a case of ammo anymore because she knows that those things are going to be much more valuable in a survival situation than a new TV. She's not into politics or survival at all really, but even she can see we're headed for rough times as a Nation.

Hey now, that black helicopter came over my house the other day. I didn't see it though, because it was invisible -- but I heard it so it must have been there! Shocked

I'd be up for a test. Give it a month and if my phycho brother-in-law ain't posting about the police in the bushes surrounding his house, it should be good to go. I'd like to hear what other people are doing to prepare for a minor or major shutdown in services and such. Things like rotating gas from 5 gallon jugs to your car to keep your backup fresh and things like that. Worse come to worse, there's a fella's that got 25 acres other side of clinton. I could pop up a tent there. He won't even know I'm there, he'll be down in his bunker.

"I got a shotgun, a rifle, and a 4wd"

I think tin foil hats should be issued upon entering that forum! Seriously though it would be good to have a Mississippi specific forum for hard times. What has really alarmed me over the last two years is the number of economist that say our debt load is UNSUSTAINABLE. Since I don't see Washington cutting spending on entitlements, I see hyperinflation as a distinct possibility.
