scope rings

Post by dhollis51 on Sun Aug 22, 2010 11:11 pm

I finally mounted my scope on my 700 tac and have the 30mm Medium Warne rings and the EGW base and there is about 1/4" between the objective and the barrel. Question is should i go to the low rings? just looks high and sorta feels high while looking through the scope.

thanks

DH

I like my scope as low as it can be without touching the barrel.

You absolutely need to have your scope as low as possible without touching. If you can slide a $1 bill between the scope and the barrle, its fine.

i would go with what fits you. if it does not fill natural to you, it might be to high.you could put a cheek pad on to make it fell better.

Ever watch super slow motion videos of a scope and barrel flex when fired? It shocked me how much they flex. I wouldn't get crazy close.

I have always run my scopes as close to the barrel as I can get without touching and to date haven't had a problem. It has got to feel right to you though.

Having taller rings comes in handy for me when I swap scopes from one of my rifles to another. I cant decide which diameter objective I like the best at times. Of course that could be solved by buying a good scope the first time, and quit being so cheap.

I prefer to be able to slide a credit card between my barrel and objective. No more no less. I'm no expert but all the experts who have given me advice on it have told me this as a guideline.
