Storing a Rimfire with the firing pin released

Post by sidroski on Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:21 pm

I was reading a manual on a Ruger. They said to store it with the firing pin released. How do ya'll release it without hitting the chamber face? Thought of a few ideas but wanted to hear from some of ya'll.

Don't own a Ruger, but off the top of my head I'd say a snap cap or a spent casing.

My manual says the rugers (or at least my mk3) has a firing pin stop to prevent damage to the chamber when you dry fire it. To break them down you have to dry fire the gun.

On a semi-auto, pull the bolt back slightly, hold it, and squeeze the trigger. On a bolt action, raise the bolt about half way, hold it, and squeeze the trigger. You want the bolt just clear of the mouth of the chamber when the firing pin drops.

Ive dry fired my 10/22s so many times its not funny..
I havent seen a mark in all the carbon build up on the barrel face yet Very Happy

I dont worry about dryfiring guns.. now a Bow on the other hand... that could get interesting..
