reloading the 5.7

Looks like nobody on here has reloaded for the 5.7 so this will be virgin waters to me. Anyone own one yet? Iv got the upper on l
Hold and the lower should be in in about a week. From what I can gather its super synsetive on powder an bullet weight sub 50gr bullet an true blue is the preferd powder. Wonder how lead would do?

I'm wondering in general. We have zero data on here regarding reloading for this bullet

I'd think it would be a little hot for lead.

Would definitely need a gas check. Don't think it would be too hot for lead. I think you can shoot lead through .223 or 7.62 x 39.

I have seen 223 lead loads before in a published magazine but I cannot recall where...

I have a 5.7 pistol, reloading is VERY TRICKY from what I have been told although I have not tried it yet. This is because the cartridge is so small.

Get some Elite Ammo for that thing too, there stuff is POTENT! There is a link on that forum for Elite's offerings.

I have heard you really need to reload to get the most out of this round. Elite arms makes some good stuff. Have you seen their trident bullets? Those things are sweet! The shop were I got the upper said they would cut me a deal at 17 dollars a box for the ballistic tips if I bought 500 rounds or more

I don't know much about the round but one would assume that lead wouldn't work out too well due to velocity. I imagine that the barrel would become fouled very quickly and the accuracy would go to crap. That's not something you want out of a fast shooting auto of any kind.

From what little I've read about the 5.7 it's tricky to load. Some of you more experienced guys may be willing to tackle it but I'd be afraid of loosing a few fingers due to an excessive powder charge. I'd say that finding a good powder that you trust will meter well would be the most important part.

I think, THINK, Blue Dot is the preferred powder....please verify that first!

well if any of you pistol owners wanna donate your brass to me for load development i would greatly welcome it maybe we could have a 5.7 reload party at my house and get yal a good round that will work in them pistols

well i got all the junk i could think of to kick start my adventure when i realized i have no stinking small rifle primers!!!!! ugh how did that happen. Then as i am fondling some brass i notice the primers have been staked in! i gotta buy a primer pocket uniformer now = ( what else

The 5.7x28 brass you are buying from me has a very light 3-point crimp on the primer pockets. A light turn of a deburring tool should fix that......

I "think" this mold was ment for 22 hornet but if my gun likes um im gonna rock an roll with it
I couldnt find any load data for my precious VihtaVouri powders so im back to accurate #5

well im my greater wisdom i left the autoprime at my parents house so i guess i aint gonna get a load worked up this week.. These bullets after GC and sizing weigh out to 62gr out of a 55gr mold. For some reason i am not to optomistic about the mold.. i think this will make a good subsonic bullet out to 100 yards and thats it. i could be wrong though. so in the mean time i will size and take the crimp out of the primer pocket.. More details next weekend

OK -- fill me in on a few things:

1. What mould is that you are using?
2. What is your allow?
3. What diameter are you sizing them?

1. lyman .225 two cavity semi point gc 55gr. dont know the exact model#. there is a phantom lyman mold that drops a 35gr bullet but they are rare and if you find them on ebay or GB they are BIG $$$ because of 5.7 loaders
2. allowences is kinda up in the air..
most rounds used in the 5.7 have long ogive and these bullets have short ones. I am worried they are going to be touching the lands befor the bolt closes and they will be seated as deep as i am willing to go.
