Scope for F-Class

Which scope should I buy? I just bought a Remington 700SS 5r Milspec in .308. I would like to participate in F-Class competitions one day with this gun. Which scope should I buy for $1,000 or less? I have three in mind but am open to suggestions. The three I'm currently considering are:

Sightron's 8-32x56 (SIIISS832X56LRTD) ~$850; or
Sightron's 10-50x60 (SIIISS1050X60LRTD) ~$950 to $1K; or
Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 ~$900.

What type of reticle should I pick?

Never used a Sightron, but the Bushnell Elite's are hard to beat for the money. Look at the Nightforce Benchrest Models. A couple of hundred dollars more but well worth it. Just purchased an 8-32 x 56mm benchrest.

What level of adjustment should your scope be: 1/4 or 1/8 MOA?

For example, the Sightron 8-32x56 and the Bushnell Elite 6500 have click values of 1/4 while the Sightron 10-50x60 has a 1/8 MOA.

1/4MOA is 1.5inches at 600 yards. Usually plenty good enough. It is hard for me to tell if I need to move the POI .75 or 1.5 at 600 yards. I have a 12-42 Benchrest and the 42x comes in handy some days. Others I don't turn it up past 30. My first scope was 5.5-22 and I still managed to shoot in the high 180's so what I'm trying to say is ......... well I don't actually know but when in doubt do what I do and "google"

I use a cheap Millett LRS 6-25x56 on my 300wm. For $425 its nice. It gets thrown around in my truck all the time and have yet to get it off zero, along with over 250rds thru it..

Its a 35mm tube and its amazing how good you can see thru it at night. Not that everybody uses their rifles at night

Last match i had a 191 score on the second relay. Fought the bipod on the first realy and never could get it settled and ended up with a 178

Limbic: You have me considering the Nightforce 12-42 Benchrest. What mount and rings are you using with it?

The Millett sounds like a great scope for the money. May be a great choice for my R-15!

I have a stiller action with the integral rail and use stiller rings. Most of my load workup is done at 200y and it is nice to see your groups without having to go down range.

NF Benchrest are very nice...That just might be my next scope purchase

I have a Bushnell Tactical Elite 4200 ...several of them as a matter of fact...

6.5-24x50....hard to beat for a "low-end" F class scope

I have a rifle that I just found out is set up perfectly for F/TR but it has a fixed 10power scope. It is sitting ona 20moa base so I think it will be fine until I get into it more than just trying it out. What do you all think?

If its a clear scope then 10 power will be fine. Ive shot a 10" 3 cold bore shot group at 1000yds with my 270 using a millett 4-16 i had it set on 10 power so i could use the mildots.
10 power is what our boys use to use back in the day like Hathcock for example.

+1 on the Nightforce 12x42x56 BR. I am running nightforce rings on Ken Farrell 20moa bases. The BR model is about $1300 the NXS is a several $100 more. Difference is the NXS has side focus and is 1/4moa adjustments where as the BR is 1/8 moa adjustments and has front objective adjustment (one less lense than the NXS models side focus).

At 1000 yards one click of elevation is 2.5" w/ 1/4 and 1.25" with 1/8. i am using this reticle here is nightforce's description of the reticle.

I ended up with the millet 4-16 trs. So far very good for the money wish it had more magnification for F class. Those small white lines are hard to see.
