I have been hearing all these good things about these guns and have heard prices were around 80-100 dollars. So I went looking for one today. Found 4. CHeapest one was $175.00. What are these things actually worth, in fair condition? ANyone have one for sale?

The carbines go for about 150 to 175, and are getting harder to find. I did see a few at the last jackson gun show though. The longer guns for the most part should not be over 100. Unless its got a bent bolt handle, that indicates a possible sniper rifle. If you want to see a decent carbine that would give you an idea of their value your welcome to look at mine. The guy i got it from on trade paid 169 for it at great southern in pearl about a year ago.

I buy from Century International, their Mosin Nagants are priced from $69.95 to $500 for the Sniper rifle with scope. You can review their products at: http://www.centuryarms.biz/categories.asp?cat=66. You have to call for prices if are not a member/dealer.

Just ordered several more MNs from Century! If you have a C&R they have discounts on the "good" graded rifles.

When I started collecting Nagants the first time, I was buying 91 3 at a time from Birmingham Pistol Wholesale for $39 a piece. Those guns are 200 and up, same thing will happen to the 91/30's, 44's and 38's. Granted they will never probably bring the prices that US WWII stuff does, however it does afford those new to collecting to build a collection with out breaking the bank.

The Izhevsk 91/30 I bought was a 3 for deal from SOG for $54.95 each (about 2 years ago). I have a CRFFL and I don't use it much. The plan was to buy 3 and keep the best rifle. All three would have been shooters. The one I kept had no visible signs of being fired. The exterior had visible signs of long storage, so I don't thing this is a newly refinished rifle. Besides there are no refinish markings on the rifle ( a square and a diagonal slash or a square and a right angle slash). You could see the reamer marks in the throat of the barrel. After I carefully inspected it, I noticed it was drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver. The holes were capped but they could be seen on the inside of the receiver. I have read that the Soviet Sight in Commisar would pick the most accurate out of each 100 rifles tested and mark it for Sniper use. They actually fired the rifles to sight them in.

The rifle was really accurate at the range. With Sierra .311" SP bullets and Lapua D46 .310" bullets the rifle was close to MOA with original sights. Just got lucky. I will develop a light recoiling load and try this rifle in a CMP Vintage Bolt Rifle Match. It ought to do well.

Any of you who are serious about collecting MN rifles should get the book by Doug Bowser: RIfles of the White Death (about the Finn rifles used in the Winter war against the Soviets); as well as the 2 volumes by Karl Heinz Wrobel "Drei Linien-die Gewehre Mosin-Nagant". The latter are available from Deutsches Waffen Journal, amazon, etc., and are in German but the photos and captions are understandable to most any weapons enthusiast. (and of course you can ask me to translate anything you don't get Smile . Karl Heinz Wrobel actually quotes and footnotes Doug Bowser's book many times, just to show what a great reference DB's book is.
I also have to say that the Finn variants are probably the best for shooting accuracy / investment; SOG has the M39 "B" barrelled versions now for $299 and there were only approximately 3000 of these made, so they are not only a great shooter, but an investment destined to skyrocket in value. A word to the wise...

LOOK on SOG you can buy the 91/30 for around 80-90 bucks and a carbine for 113 bucks. The carbine I bought was in excellent shape not even a nic in the stock and no wear on it what so ever even though most likely it has been refinished.
