B-I-L gave me an Enfield revolver.

Post by BearsBoy on Sat Aug 28, 2010 9:58 pm

Wife and I visited her brother in Paducah for some cycle riding last weekend. Before we left he gave me this old revolver that he had. Neither of us had a clue as to what it was until I took an hour to research it online last night. Mechanically it's in great shape. The finish and the screws look like crap along with the cheap fake bone grips. I may have to spend a few bucks someday and pretty it up. Smile
FYI, it's 38 S&W.

Here is a link to the info that I found and here is a pic.

The part in the article about the company having the barrel cut down was really interesting. A revolver that sold for $17 in 1960 and they did such a professional job that 99 out 100 people probably couldn't tell that it wasn't built that way.
I was going to throw it in a drawer and forget about it but it's so freakin' ugly that I may have to restore it someday. Being worth about $300 helps, too. Smile

Yeah, it sure won't win any beauty contest, but it is interesting.

A shooting report would be interesting.

Holy cow that looks old. I'd be scared to shoot it.

It will probably outlast any of the newer revolvers made.

Nice gun

It "pays" to visit and be respectful to older relatives...you younger folks make a note of that

Nice gun. I like those old revolvers. The design and workmanship in some of the ones I've had is amazing. As long as it's reasonably tight and the timing is ok I wouldn't be concerned about shooting it. The 38 S&W ammo that's available is low pressure. I've have had several of these old ones and have shot them all.

I now have about 6 pieces that I haven't shot since getting them this year. I'm going to have to get with a friend and try them all out one day.
The Enfield is really tight and no slack in the cylinder so I'll be looking for some 38 s&w when I check out the gun show at the convention center next month.

If you can't find any .38 S&W let me know. I can let you borrow a few rounds to try it out.

Thanks for the offer! I think the hardest part is finding the time to shoot.
But I need to buy a box. I try to keep at least one box for the each of the oldies.

I do the same thing. I've got nearly a full box of .38 S&W ammo. It's getting hard to find. I sold my last .38 S&W last July but I'm sure I'll get another one.

I was in Swann's Gun Repair at lunch and he has two 50 rd. boxes of Rem. 38 S&W for $33.49/box.
