Does this gun exist?

Post by 3spop on Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:09 pm

My father-in-law is looking for a 9MM. He has told me what he wants. I have offered several different options with slight variations to what he wants, but he says he’s holding out to get what he wants or as close to it as he can. He wants a medium sized 9mm semi-auto. WITH an external thumb safety. WITHOUT a hammer. Without a glock style trigger. Oh yeah, he also wants it to shoot single action. I told him I didn’t know if such a gun existed. I told him his best bet may be an XD or M&P, but I’m not sure how close their triggers are to a single action. Ya’ll know of a gun that meets this criteria?

My first thought is a Taurus 24/7 pro.

Was gonna say the same thing, except after the first "double-action" shot (assuming you carry it decocked) the subsequent shots are essentially the same as a Glock -- i.e. the striker is partially cocked at this point, so your trigger pull does a little bit more cocking of the striker before releasing it. I used to own and shoot Glocks, and the 24/7 "single action" feels just about the same as a Glock trigger (to me anyway), kinda springy.

Yeah I guess so, I wonder about the Kimber polymer gun, or maybe the wilson combat one. I don't know about either one, but thats the only one that comes to mind besides the Taurus.

The only thing missing - There is a hammer. The trigger pull is Double Action / Single Action.

The link below describes the three models of the Beretta 90-Two. I have the F and really like it. It sounds like the F would be closest to what you're looking for.

I think the newer XD tacticals come with a thumb safety, don't they? Or the XDM 5"?

Hard to hit that exactly. I'm not going to give it to you but here are some other close options you may consider. Smith & Wesson might have something (similar to 3953 but it's DAO), Browning Hi-Power is close, Beretta 90-two is close, Springfield EMP is close, Sig 210-2, Armalite AR-24. Just thoughts...

You can put a manual safety on a Glock. It is an option from the factory or aftermarket part.

Did you mean P38? I don't recall P08 with hammer.

My bad Doug, I should have reread the post. He said no hammer and you hit it on head with the P08. Sorry.

What about the kimber aegis? The new models have a hammer, but the older models didn't, not sure about the thumb safety though. But he could probably still find a new hammerless model

I guess technically it's hammer just doesn't have a spur...but I'd think that's pretty close

Heckler & Koch P30 LEM with manual safety. 4.5 pound pull from the first shot. My USP compact has this set up and its not bad. If you can get him down this way he is more than welcome to try it out.
