Just had to show her off!

Post by longgun60 on Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:42 pm

T/C Prohunter Stainless in .35 Whelen. Game Reaper one piece base and rings, topped with a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10X50 scope. I have been doing some reading on this caliber, and decieded to use it as my all around deer rifle. I will try to sight it in this weekend and give a range report later. Sure feels good on my shoulder. I'm having a local gunsmith do a trigger job next week to take it down to about 2.5 to 3.5 pounds. Should be a shooter then!

Soon as I said the link didn't work, your rifle popped up. Nice looking rifle, those T/C are getting quite popular.

I had to edit to get the pic to download. I think I have it now. Let me know if not.

That's a nice looking rifle. This is one on my "list" to buy one day.

How do you like the scope base? I just put a set on my wife's .243
and like em so far.

I like the design. I like to use one piece rings and bases. I finally got to fire the first 5 rounds thru it today before dark. Now I have to fine tune it when I have more time. So far they are working great. I wish I had gotten medium height, I like my scope almost touching my barrel. Now I can't wait for season to open!

You might consider having the gunsmith put a 50# hammer spring in it while he's got it. The factory springs are about 30# and sometimes won't set the primer off. It is my understanding that a trigger job consists of changing the trigger spring out. The trigger on a Thompson Center is hardened and I am advised that you can' do any honing on it without removing the hardened part. I really like my rifle, which is exactly the same, even to the scope and mounts. The 225 grain Hornady Accu-bond will group less than an inch.

He ordered a spring kit from Bellm. It has trigger, hammer, and latch springs. I tried another gun he had worked on and it was great. Did you mean Nosler Accubonds? That is what I want to use.

I'm jealous. I really want a .35 Whelen to hunt with this fall. How is the recoil on that thing? Some say it is vicious, some say it's a pussycat.

The recoil is about like my .270. It's not that bad. Actually I was looking for it to be like shooting a magnum the way everyone was talking. I've only shot it 5 times so far, and feels good. It came from the factory with over a 71/2 pound trigger pull. I've just got it back this morning after a trigger, hammer, and latch spring change and it took it down to a 21/4 pound trigger pull. SWEET! thumbs up

Nice, I have a TC pro hunter in a .270 and have been thinking about getting a .35 Whelen barrel for mine.

Right now T/C is offering a $50.00 rebate on barrels purchase thru sometime this month. You can get the details on the T/C website. I'm wanting to get a muzzle loading barrel for my next barrel, just to have around.

I did mean Nosler accubonds. I was late when I posted and the loading stuff is outside. I don't find the recoil to be bad, about like a 12 ga., more of a push than a sharp hit. I did put a limbsaver on my Encore when I had the 300 mag on it and that really helps.

I have heard great reviews on the Nosler Accubonds. My boss uses them in everything he hunts with and swears by them. He hunts at his camp in Ark. and has made 300-400 yard shots with them. He hasn't had to track the deer after the shot. Once I collect enough brass, I will reload them myself to fit my rifle.

I just happen to have a stainless 50 cal muzzle loader barrel. I'd like to get it out of my safe. PM me an offer if you are interested.

From what I have been told, they are legal for primitive hunting in MS. I know that the caliber is for sure, but now you have me thinking about the rifle. thinking Can some of the guys that know for sure chime in and settle this?

I think a single shot rifle with an exposed hammer is legal, in 35 cal. or larger. I haven't read the regulation myself, but that is what everyone goes by.

I have emailed the MDWFP to see if the T/C pro hunter in .35 Whelen is legal for PW season in MS. I should have a responce soon.
