savage bolt in 303?

Post by savageshooter on Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:19 pm

Saw a buddy today, says he bought a savage bolt rifle in 303. said its not an old rifle, not the enfield style. i have not seen the rifle, or the bullets, but he said the bullets are on the style of the enfield. any clues, anyone?

Never seen a bolt action Savage in 303 British or 303 Savage. Savage did make the 99 lever gun in 303 Savage not 303 British.

Could be a 340 or a 40 or 45 Super Sporter. The 340 was made in .30-30. The others in .30-06 and perhaps .303 Savage. Had a Model 45 Savage Super Sporter once. It kicked so hard it was no fun to shoot.

If it is a newer rifle it could be a 110 in 300 Savage, they made a few to for the 50 anniv of the Model 110 a few years ago.

I had one of the savage / enfield rifles. It had property of U.S. or something like that stamped on the side of the ejection port. That supposedly made it more collectible... or so I was told.

Yep, it has those markings on it, but, the barrel has been cut and re crowned, sporter stock and scope. so, its really de-valued, but shoots good. 43 or 42 year.

Its still a cool rifle. I have a plain ole number 4 mark 1 that has been shortened/sporterized and crowned. No real value but nice shooter. You have bragging rights, yours is american made.
