30-06 to 35 whelen

Post by critt77matt on Thu Sep 23, 2010 2:05 pm

I was thinking about building a 35 whelen for primitive season. Has any body ever converted something like a browning b78 or a High-wall from 30-06 to 35 whelen by having the barrel bored? I just was thinking about building something different. Obviously the low cost option is a h&r or a TC Encore.

Got a Savage 110 in '06 being converted as we speak to a custom 35 Whelen...I did not really want the '06 chambering (had a couple chambered in '06 already) and liked the 35 Whelen idea.

Its being done by Dixie Precision Rifles in Brandon...Hope to have it fairly soon...its getting a custom paint job...and I just ordered a new rifle basics trigger for it...Its gonna be a beast

send mstropyhunter a pm if you wanna get started with a few ideas

Buy a decent Bolt action (long action obviously) and convert it

I never said I was gonna use it in primative weapon season....

why do folks only associate 35 Whelen with primative?...its a bad a$$ weapon for regular season as well

He asked about '06 to 35 Whelen conversion...and I got a doosie going....

The primative weapon season rules are a joke....

Well........ You can, just don't rack the bolt and fire a repeat too quickly! Make sure you're on private land too!

For some reason folks only think the 35 Whelen comes in a handi or other Single shot

the 35 is gonna be my "go to" weapon this season...all I hunt is private land

I love the idea of it! I like the larger diameter, kind of the same reason I love the .45!

Cant ream it you would have to rebore it. Which I really dont like the idea of, but have never tried a rebored barrel.

I have not heard any complaints about the 35 Whelen. I have a friend talking about going to it as his year round gun.The 338 Federal ain,t far from it. Just a couple thousand or so. lol
