17hmr... tack drivers...

Post by Joe S. on Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:19 pm

got a chance to play with the 17hmr the other day. i am no marksman by any stretch of the imagination, but i must say it is nice!

it is a marlin 917 bull barrel with 3-9x40 tasco crappy scope and at 70 yards i am shooting 1/2 groups with CCI TNT ammo. i am in love! Very Happy

even my daughter was shooting great!

They sure are!! My 917 can shoot a lot better than I can ... just wait to you what it does on a squirrel ... will cut them into two pieces regardless of where you hit 'em!!

get the hornady V-max, they will dirty up the barrel pretty quick but MAN will they explode a dove or pigeon, or any bird or small mammal for that matter, Just dont plan on eating anything you shoot with it because it will be hard to find, Post some pics of this beast. i have a savage with thumb hole stock, bull barrel and BSA sweet seventeen. By far the best scope IMO for these guns for the price, if you would like to see mine let me know i will post pics

here is just a stored pic I have of it, I opted for the blued rather than stainless. I like a blued gun better for some reason, anyway my wife bought this for me last Christmas with the sling with my last name on it, anyway i put the scope, rings and bipod on and been killing ever since lol

Nice rifle Steveo, what optics are those?
Joe, glad to hear when someone takes their daughter out with them shooting. My daughter started at four with me cocking the handle on a little .22 revolver. She can shoot lights out nearly 20 years later.

i am NOT a BSA fan at all but i figured i would try this sweet 17 from them. Its a 6-18x40 with adjustable parallax. i think i paid 160 for it, and i must say its the perfect scope for this rifle IMO

Reminds me of popping prairie dogs off their mounds with a 22-250 back in the day.

Forgive my reminiscing.

Sounds great. Be sure to post a picture.

I got my 22-250 back in the mid- to late-60’s when I was living in WY.

Got it mail order (believe it or not) from Herter’s as I recall. Didn’t have much money to spend in those days so I was looking for something economical.

Ended up giving it to a friend’s son over 20 years ago.
