Mighty BIG recoil pad on that BEAUTIFUL Sharp rifle. I am guessing you plan to shoot MANY 500+gr higher velocity bullets from it......

My 45-90 Sharps is harder kicking than this one, and Saturday before last I fired 75 rounds at ranges from 200 to 600 yards. Those big hunks of lead cause a lot of recoil, roughly twice that of a 30-06. The Shooter's Friend pads are on all my centerfire Sharps rifles.
PS: The 45-90 kicks more than the Big Fifty.

How does it do at those ranges? What does the reticle look like in that scope?

It's a "no center" mil-dot. Thus, it has crosshairs with two, one-MOA dots on either side and below. That allows quick, repeatable rise or left-right correction.
Here, it was easier to "borrow" an image and post it.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but the reticle and the target are incredibly clear. It's not going to be too great in low light, unfortunately, but it's not a night scope, after all. And it's "only" six power, which is considerably better than the one power of my right eye through a vernier sight's eyepiece.

That makes sense. I was picturing a reticle with "no center."

Well, I did get in a range session with the new scope in place.
I shot at 100 yards on both a Leopold sight in target and an NRA 100-yard smallbore target. Mostly I wasted ammunition, as the scope mounts turned out to be a little bit loose (not anyone's fault, just miscommunication). But with a good hold she'll find the X ring, so that's a plus.
I was shooting a 535-grain Postell bullet cast of 20 parts lead to one part tin over 68 grains of FF Goex and the standard .06" over powder wad.
One big problem is that the engraved lines on both the windage and elevation screws are absolutely MICROSCOPIC. I couldn't get in thee with a magnifying glass because of the angle, so I made a quick call to Montana Vintage Arms and ordered a set of larger, well marked knobs. Ordered on Friday, they arrived yesterday, so the next session might be a bit easier, at least as far as seeing what I'm doing.
