Remington under fire

Apparently there have been a bunch of issues over the past 60 years with the Remington 700, where the gun is accidentally discharging when the bold is closed. So CNBC is having a special tonight at 8(channel 355 on directv) claiming that Remington has known about it all along and so on.

Hmmmmm I've never heard about this until my little brother text me a hour ago saying our grandfather just called our mom and told her about it so now he's pissed cuz she doesn't want him shooting that gun until there is a recall or something.

I tried to research it a bit. Not a whole lot to be found with the exception of remington's side of the story. 2 of their videos show hired experts for court cases and CNBC. One of which states he never could get the gun to accidentally fire and the other Remington flames pretty good for being filmed while holding the gun with the bold closed and his finger on the trigger.

Not sure what to think about this. I'll believe it when I see proof I guess. I don't own one, but have shot my brothers in 7mag quite a bit, without ever havin a problem. We'll see.

Yeah I've never heard an account of it. 30 mins till the show comes on. It plays again like 3 times next week according to the CNBC site if anyone misses it

Well they have managed to document it....but I've yet to see anything that proves it's a widespread design flaw but the show has only just started

Exactly. If it's loaded point it up or down....that's what I was taught. The times when people have been hurt it's been because it was pointed in a random direction. Except the guy who lost his foot. Y'all know the saying...guess what....it was pointed at something....and it got destroyed

I see their point about the safety flaw. But at the same time if the gun is kept clean and oiled(rust free) then it shouldn't be a problem, because that's the cause theyre citing for the ADs.

Doesn't really matter to me. I'll stick with my savage.

hmmmm....interesting to say the least. i dunno. like i told my brother though, if they think dirt and rust might cause it, take it to a smith, have it looked over and thoroughly cleaned(like you're supposed to once a year), make sure the part in question is safe, and go shoot the heck out of it!

he's also thinking about maybe just having the trigger replaced to remove that problem from the equation. or just trade it in for a new gun. i dunno....there's always a first time for everything, even if they claimed it only affects 1% of the guns.

It was very interesting to say the least...I was totaling expecting an antigun rant but they have some stout documentation on this...I dont own one so I really just dont know but sounds very isolated to me, not a definitive prob with numbers sold versus complaints. I still want one and hope to get it.........

Well especially now you can just buy the model with the xmark trigger or whatever and it's not supposed to be able to do it...I dunno. I've never even heard about it until now and they claimed on 1% of the guns are affected so it's very isolated....there's just a ton of them out there.

But yes I was pleased that it wasn't some liberal rant. They actually showed concerns that this could affect our rights and repeated how important our 2nd ammendment rights are to all americans.

For one I have never heard of this, 700 actions have been used in the military for a long time, I have used remington's all my life. Never had a problem

It has been an isolated event at best. I am not a Remington fan but I think it is a basic design and if manufactured right works well and is accurate and easy to customize.

I've had a couple people ask me about this at work. News to me!
